Fats For Your Health
If you listen to the news,
watch TV, read magazines and newspapers, you might believe
that fats are bad for you and that low fat and non fat options are best
for your health. But is that really true?
The truth of the matter is that your body needs healthy fats, including
healthy saturated fats. Some of the benefits of satruated fats include:
- maintaining
the integrity of the cell membranes
- utilization
of calcium in your bones
- enhancing
immune system functon
- proper
utilization of essential fatty acids and omega-3 fats
Read more about the
benefits of saturated fats here.
One of the best, if not the all time best saturated fat is coconut oil.
Unlike most other saturated fats that are composed of long chain
triglycerides, coconut oil is composed mostly of medium chain
triglycerides. This is important because fats composed of long chain
triglycerides pass through the bloodstream. Coconut oil, with its
medium chain triglycerides, does not enter the bloodstream, but goes
directly to your liver and provides energy for your cells.
Saturated fat has been accused of clogging your arteries and contributing to
heart disease. When the fat in artery clogs has been evaluated, it was
found that only about 26% was saturated fat. Over 50% was from
polyunsaturated fat! You may want to read that again ... Over 50% of the fat found in
artery clogs was from polyunsaturated fat! Source.
So, polyunsaturated fats are the dangerous fats you need to be
concerned about.
The worst polyunsaturated fats
are
- soy
oil
- corn
oil
- sunflower
oil
- safflower
oil
The
healthiest fat to include in your diet is coconut oil. Not just any
coconut oil ... Extra virgin, raw unprocessed coconut
oil.
Coconut oil is antimicrobial, antifungal, antiviral and antibacterial.
It is effective against candida. It is protective against many common
diseases that are rampant today, including heart disease and diabetes.

The coconut as a whole is a healthy food. Cultures in the coconut
growing regions of the world, that have not succumbed to western fast
food diets remain the healthiest people in the world with the lowest
disease rates.
Coconut water, from the inside of the coconut, is rich in minerals and
electrolytes and is a refreshing beverage as well as an excellent
electrolyte replacement beverage for sports. Coconut water does have a
high natural sugar content, so would not be recommended for those with
candida or blood sugar problems. Give it to your kids instead of
the chemical beverages on the market. You can easily find it
in health food stores.
